The Black Sheep of Addiction: Integrating Tobacco Control into Substance Use Disorder Programming
March 5 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
This webinar explores how tobacco and nicotine use disorder is often positioned outside the core language, workflows, and expectations of SUD services, even as recovery-oriented care has matured across other substances.
While addiction is increasingly understood as a chronic, treatable condition with nonlinear trajectories, tobacco and nicotine cessation is frequently framed as a secondary issue or deferred concern rather than a core clinical priority. The result is misalignment across screening practices, clinical accountability, and recovery narratives, with tobacco use remaining normalized within systems intended to support long-term wellbeing.
